The Marion County Bar Association (MCBA) was established in 1989. The goal of the organization is to promote professionalism and camaraderie within the legal community. Through our monthly meetings we strive to support our members & their practices by providing local court administrative updates, and educating members through free continuing education certification (CLEs).

Meet The MCBA Board

Shawn Clark

President

Shawn is a double Gator, earning his Bachelor’s degree in 2007 and his Juris Doctor in 2011 from the University of Florida. He practices in personal injury with Ocala-based Hightower & Hightower, PA.

Shawn is currently the Chair of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Grievance Committee and a pro bono attorney with Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida. He is also an Eagle member of the Florida Justice Association, a member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, and the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Outside of his legal work, Shawn enjoys spending time with his wife, Catherine, his infant daughter, two dogs, and cat. He has also been a proud “Big Brother” mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program since 2022.

Christopher S. Cervellera

Vice President

Chris is a lifelong Marion County resident. Born and raised in Ocala, he is proud to serve the community that helped shape him. After attending the University of South Florida, he earned his Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law in 2017.

In 2022, Chris returned to Ocala and relocated his firm, CERV LAW, PLLC, where he focuses on serving businesses, families, and individuals. His practice includes business and corporate law, contract drafting and negotiation, civil litigation, real estate law, employment matters, intellectual property, and estate planning. While his roots remain firmly planted in Marion County, his practice regularly involves clients, transactions, and professional relationships that span the United States and the globe. Chris is a member of the Fifth Judicial Circuit Bar Grievance Committee and is active in various local community organizations.

Chris lives in Ocala with his fiancée and young son. When he is not practicing law, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, working outdoors in his yard and garden, and tackling the never-ending list of home improvement projects that come with owning an older home.

Kevin Steiniger

Treasurer

Kevin is a felony prosecutor working for the Marion County State Attorney’s office for the 5th Judicial Circuit.

Kevin earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of South Florida in 2015, a Juris Doctorate from Stetson Law in 2020 and has been serving the public as an Assistant State Attorney for Marion County since December of 2020.

In addition to his duties prosecuting crimes, he also is a State representative for the Post Adjudicatory Drug Court program, working to help tackle drug problems and assisting those who desire help in their process to beat addiction. Kevin also serves as one of the Volunteer Judges for Teen Court, another diversionary program available to first time teen offenders, aimed at helping kids face the consequences for their actions while helping building towards their futures.

Shelby Horn

Secretary

Originally from Dothan, Alabama, Shelby is a graduate of Sweet Briar College, a women’s college in Sweet Briar, Virginia. Shelby was a rider in Sweet Briar’s renown equestrian program, earned undergraduate degrees summa cum laude in History and Classics, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Shelby then graduated from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and is admitted to practice in the State of Florida. She practices personal injury law at the Meldon Law Firm.

Shelby lives with her husband, who is a veteran of the US Navy, their horses, and their Jack Russell Terrier. Shelby is an avid equestrian and a member of the Florida Thoroughbred Fillies Club, a club for women in the equine industry that supports Marion County charitable groups.
